Jane is an experienced tutor of maths and English to GCSE level and has considerable experience of working with children in Years 4, 5 and 6 to prepare them for the Grammar School Selection Test.
1:1 tuition is individualised with the exact content depending on the needs of each student. Jane works closely with children and their parents, building an effective relationship that means she will quickly to get to know your child and teach them in a style that suits them. Jane chooses appropriate materials and resources for each individual rather than working through a particular course or syllabus.

Autumn Term: Building Blocks¨ Introduction of vocabulary through word games and puzzles¨ Introduction of vocabulary through reading comprehension¨ Development of vocabulary, including recognising synonyms and antonyms¨ Thorough study of the parts of speech¨ Development of independent usage of dictionary and thesaurus¨ Revision of Key Stage 2 mathematics curriculum; particular attention paid to any knowledge gaps¨ Development of speed of application of mathematical operations¨ Times tables, including division, at speed
Spring Term: Skill Development¨ Skill-building for reading comprehension (reading for detail, understanding the question); ¨ Continued vocabulary building¨ Study of various types of mathematical problems¨ Detailed study of Verbal Reasoning (VR) and Non-Verbal Reasoning (NVR) skills, for each question type used in CEM 11+ papers.
Summer Term until exam: Exam Technique¨ Continued study of VR and NVR¨ Tackling VR and NVR questions at speed¨ Solving mathematical problems at speed¨ Completing reading comprehensions under timed conditions¨ Moving towards full-length examination papers in all areas.
