About Us

We are an education provider specialising in supporting pupils in upper Key Stage 2  who are aiming to attend a selective grammar school for their secondary education.

Tewkesbury Tuition is private business that operates separately from the local education authority. We are not endorsed by nor associated with GL Assessment who produce the assessment materials used in Gloucestershire . Our aim is to assist your child's preparation for the exam through providing an authentic mock exam experience, group and 1:1 tuition This complements school studies and gives children the experience and tools they need for a successful outcome in the Gloucestershire Grammar Schools Entrance Test.

We are different from other similar education providers in that we are a local business and our aim is to support local Gloucestershire children on their path from primary education to secondary education in the Gloucestershire Grammar Schools. 

We are also unique in our ambition to support all children, regardless of means. We are very aware that a large number of children sitting the selective tests have been educated in the independent sector. We want to reassure families that a grammar school education is open to all and that an able child can succeed even if it is felt that they haven't had the educational advantage that some have.  We want to be able to assist all families in preparing their children for Grammar School entrance, regardless of means. 

We are proud to offer concession rates on our mock 11 plus exams to low income families. 

Tewkesbury Tuition is directed by Jane Bassett and she is the lead tutor for 11 plus preparation.

 Jane began her career in education as an English Language Assistante in Dijon, France, whilst undertaking an undergraduate degree in French and Linguistics at the University of Oxford. She graduated in 2003 with an MA in Modern Languages and went on to complete her PGCE at the Department of Education at the University of Oxford. She has subsequently worked in both primary and secondary education in both the state and independent sectors and was Head of French and Head of Year at Eaton Square Preparatory School, London for five years. 

Jane has an extensive knowledge of the admissions processes for independent schools and grammar schools at 11+ and 13+, having prepared and supported many children through the ISEB Common Entrance Examinations, 11+ and 13+ scholarship, Gloucestershire Grammar Schools and Warwickshire Grammar Schools Selection Tests.

Jane lives in rural Gloucestershire with her three children and has experienced the Grammar School Admissions process as a parent and friend as well as a tutor.
